At St. Paul’s we are a spiritually inclusive community that welcomes ALL youth. We gather on Wednesdays from 6 – 7:30 pm in Susanna Wesley Place in the Youth Room that is located upstairs on the far left. Our gatherings include community building, fellowship, spiritual learning, and games. The group is intended for students in 6th through 12th grades. Additional activities include annual retreats, camps, and other special events.

Wednesday evenings @ St Paul’s

  • Wednesday nights during the school year, the St. Paul’s congregation hosts a Community Dinner in the basement of the church that students are welcome to attend at 5:30 pm.

  • The youth room opens in St. Paul’s Susanna Wesley Place (2nd floor) at 6:00 pm for games, snacks, and hang-out time.

  • NEW THIS YEAR: We have grown and are now offering both a Junior and Senior High group. Junior High will meet upstairs in the Youth Room, and Senior High downstairs in the Fireside Room. Both are located in Susanna Wesley Place (512 Logan St). Come check us out at 6 pm on Wednesday evenings.

Sunday evenings @ Covenant

  • Sunday nights during the school year, you can also join us at Covenant UMC from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Youth Group is open to students in 6th - 12th grade.

YOUTH MINISTRY VOLUNTEERS

Student leaders do a great deal of the planning for the youth group, including organizing and running games, offering some of the devotionals, and creating discussion questions. Adult sponsors support students as mentors and guides, opening up opportunities for youth to grow not only in faith but also as community members and leaders.

We are actively looking for adults to volunteer to be with us on Wednesday nights (have a love for youth and be willing to hold space for their growth and development); provide transportation and adult support for special outings and mission trips; or, for a less hands-on way to help, provide snacks and treats for the youth. All volunteers who work directly with youth are expected to submit information for a background check and complete a risk management training every 3 years. For more information or to volunteer, contact the office.

Youth Ministry Activities

In addition to our weekly ministry, our youth have many special event opportunities, including;

  • Summer camps at Flathead Lake UMC Camp and Luccock Park Camp as both participants and counselors. This is financially supported through generous scholarships provided by St. Paul’s members.

  • Mission Trip in early summer is a week-long service/learning experience that builds community within the group, connects us to others in service, and builds our faith experientially. Fundraising throughout the year helps make this happen!

  • Convo is an annual event for United Methodist youth in Montana that typically takes place in the winter or spring.

  • Chrysalis is the youth version of a 72-hour retreat called Walk to Emmaus. Here in Helena, this is usually scheduled over the President’s Day weekend when Covid precautions allow.

  • School Holiday Activities include “fun days,” hands-on service opportunities, and lock-ins coordinated with other UM youth groups from Great Falls, Bozeman, and Butte.

  • Assisting with congregational ministries like Vacation Bible School, the Christmas Pageant, and other events for children where teen leadership is a huge help!
